Rather be Retired?
10 Sep 2004 —

See, now that I think about it, we are on topic.
I just finished watching Dan Rather cover his tooshie on the Evening News, and I'm simply amazed (although I shouldn't be) at the effort CBS is going through to defend the Bush National Guard documents (3.4 meg, PDF).
No need for me to rehash the story. There's plenty of other sources that'll cover it. With condemning evidence raining down from well, everywhere—calling the documents in question a fraud—Dan seems to be making one final stand for twisted journalism.
Dan squirmed in his seat tonight as he became the typographic expert, assuring America that typewriters did that special thing back in the day, and that "New Times Roman" (a proportional typeface) was, in fact, invented in the 1930s. Really, Dan?
Wow, you almost had me convinced that you were Mr. Monotype himself. Now you just need to let us know where you came up with those documents, cos the family of the signee sure didn't give them to you.
Say goodnight, Dan.
