Many will recall my previous entry concerning the home that Rachel and I are preparing to build. Next Tuesday we're sitting down with our "Design Consultant" where we'll have four hours to decide how we want our home to look―inside and out. You go over the four hours, and the payment schedule starts to resemble that of an attorney.
I don't know about you, but four hours is a little tight when it comes to picking out carpet, tile, paint, lighting, brushed nickel fixtures, and where I want outdoor electrical outlets for my Christmas lights.
Needless to say, Rach and I have been digging through catalogs, magazines, and websites to get ideas for how we want to do this thing. We've found some truly great stuff. I'm not saying we've decided on everything yet, but the leads are coming in.
For interior lighting and fixtures, check out the striking fans and lamps at G Squared Arts. The Magellan may very well find its way onto our front porch.
PMB Designs creates customizable hand-painted canvas rugs (yes, they are pricey). where you choose your own shape, size, pattern, and even color palette. The patterns are killer, and although you could purchase a fully loaded G5 with a Cinema Display for the cost, any designer is going to be inspired with a stop by their site.
We also found some drop-dead furniture at DELLAROBBIA and the revolving favorite, Design Within Reach. Of course, the price range on most of this stuff leads us to ask, "Who's reach?" That said, if I had the spare coin, the orange chair would be mine.
Sadly, with all the choices, we have to cut it somewhere. The designer furniture may have to wait until after we tile the bathroom. If you know of any other great sources for home material (no links to Home Depot please, we know where to find that one), drop a comment below. We'd love to check them out.

Good stuff at Funky Sofa. Thanks!

Relatively inexpensive, but I think they only do phone and catalog orders. The website will give you a feel for their designs, and you can request a catalog online.

My wife absolutely loves West Elm. It is really great stuff, as mentioned... And not too pricey at all. The kicker? Did you know that they are owned by Pottery Barn?

Now, that I didn't know! That would explain why I love their designs so much. If I come up with something else I will be sure to pass it along. Congrats on the new house!

I'm a graphic & web designer/homebuilder (yes, that's an unusual combination). I like your floor plan, but see some areas that could be improved. Our design/build company can be found at www.mockandlenker.com should you be interested in learning more about us.
